The format of the blog limits us to having the newest posts appear first. To view the beginning of the blogs (the oldest posts), scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'previous' (there are four pages worth of writing). Otherwise, the first blog you will see is the last we posted and vice versa. (Content on the first page is relevant and based off of the other pages. We imagine that reading them in order would avoid a lot of confusion).

Thank you.

With my mom's help and ability to speak Creole, together we were able to communicate with he locals and talk to them about some of the problems they face in their communities. There was a cement block 100 yards away from the house we were staying in and on that cement patch there was supposed to be a kindergarten school. It would save the kids walking 3 hours to go to school everyday. Knowledge is power so what’s stopping us from helping others learn and grow.

Being able to buy and use anything as I please for as long as I want is something that I never realized I had, I never rally thought about what it my life would be like without all the little things I take for granted. People who can afford to complain about when their Air conditioner stops working may not know what it’s like to live in a place where it is not even common to have it. We don’t need all the clothes in our closet or the shoes in our cupboards. Our biggest problem isn’t what we need but what we think we need and want. If I wanted to I could go the mall and buy a clothes that I won’t even look at again hoping that I will be satisfied.
When I was travelling this summer that wasn’t on my mind I was just hoping to get a good nights sleep and enjoy the days as they came. Being in a whole new setting doesn’t just change the way you see things while your there but it makes you think about everything you may have taken for granted at home including family. AC included. Living in the desert previous to this summer I couldn’t imagine being with out Ac now I am okay with the fact that I will sweat like a pig and have sweat stains not like that isn’t already the case. A lot of people try to find happiness but it is hard to find an emotion, which you already have. It isn’t something you can look for, it will find you just like how it found the villagers in Haiti and Cambodia.  They don’t think they need the newest technology to get through the day, they are happy with what they have and will make the best and the most of their resources which is something everyone needs to learn. Happiness is something that needs to be cherished not bought, you can choose to be happy so what is stopping you.

I don't know why exactly, but I had a good feeling about coming to Haiti, that I was going to enjoy it. I was so excited to see what my mom had been talking about and to be able to see what was like for my mother first hand. For me family comes first, so coming to Haiti wasn't just to get involved in a community and help others but to experience a whole new life. Unfortunately I was unable to visit the family members that are currently living there but getting to at least see and eat like they do was great too. Having visited other Haitian family members that live in U.S.A I had knew that they were very welcoming and made sure you had enough food on your plate for 3 other people.
When we arrived in Terre Froide we greeted with a welcoming ceremony, which had singing and dancing by the youth in Terre Froide. They performed for at least one to two hours it was a little overwhelming for having just arrived, the more the merrier.
After finally settling into our new homes my mom and I had to got to the bathroom which was cement blocks on top of a whole with mosquitos flying around. Unfortunately I wasn't relaxed enough to use it so I was clogged up for a good four to five days. Thankfully later that week my mom had introduced me to my new best friend also known as bucket. There was a bucket in out room for late night potty breaks but let's just say it became a portable potty. Let's just say that rushing water isn't quiet or soft sound on a ceramic bucket in the middle of the night. A girl has to do what a girl has to do.
